THE YOGA OF FLOWERS

The Yoga of Flowers, a cultural, educational, and well-being proposal with the aim of highlighting natural heritage through the body awareness and contemplation.

Project Description

The Yoga of Flowers is an activity that integrates:

  • Hatha yoga (conscious movement and breathing)
  • Guided meditation in contact with the natural environment
  • An introduction to the symbolism of flowers and their cultural dimension
  • Optional creative proposals (observation, drawing, painting, or reflective writing)

The activity offers an environmentally respectful experience based on contemplation, fostering a sensitive and conscious relationship with botany.

Methodology

Sessions are held outdoors and last one hour:

  • 50 minutes of hatha yoga practice (each participant brings their own mat)
  • 10 minutes of observation and meditation with a freely chosen flower

Through contemplation, a deep connection with nature, the inner world, and personal sensitivity is encouraged. Plants are never manipulated or picked.

Project Objectives

  • Promote physical and emotional health through accessible body-based practices
  • Foster environmental awareness and respect for botanical heritage
  • Offer an innovative cultural activity linked to nature
  • Support community well-being and access to a culture of well-being
  • Enhance the botany of the Empordà as an educational, cultural, and health-related space

Conceptual Framework and Background

The project is inspired by my experience in Auroville (India), where I collaborated as a volunteer in the botanical garden and studied the ethnobotanical and spiritual system developed by Mirra Alfassa (The Mother) within the framework of Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga. In this context, flowers are used as tools for self-knowledge, meditation, and personal growth.

This work is complemented by nineteen years of studies in the anthropology of medicine with Indigenous peoples of North America (Texas and Tennessee), as well as a continuous yoga practice since 2008. I currently offer activities in Catalan, Spanish, and English in natural, cultural, and tourist spaces in the Baix Empordà.

Target Audience

  • General public
  • Adults and older adults
  • Families
  • Cultural visitors and conscious tourism

No fixed limit is set on the number of participants.
