THE YOGA OF FLOWERS

The Yoga of Flowers, is practiced in flower gardens. We do hatha yoga, enjoy flowers and share what we know about ethnobotany. Hatha Yoga is the discipline that prepares the body for health and well-being. Yoga helps maintain elasticity in the body, coordinate breathing with movement, strengthens muscles and helps maintain good health and good habits. In addition to doing hatha yoga on the mat, when we finish stretching and relaxing we go on a flower quest to meditate, feel it, draw it, paint it and/or write an intimate diary from which to develop a deep connection and sensitivity to flowers. The Yoga of Flowers is a way to experience the garden.

I have been practicing yoga since 2008. I teach yoga classes in English, Catalan and Spanish in hotel gardens, campsites, private homes, and beaches. In the winter, I go to Auroville, India, where there is an intrinsic culture of flowers which I would like to share. Auroville is my inspiration because there are archives and books of 890 flowers with philosophical content, symbolic meaning, https://motherandsriaurobindo.in/The-Mother/spiritual-significance-of-flowers/botanical-names-index/ and spiritual names given by Mirra Alfassa (Paris 1878 – Pondicherry 1973), the Mother, a Parisian who knew a lot about ethnobotany and integral yoga. After spending a few years in Japan, she moved to Pondicherry, India in 1920. In India she collaborated with Sri Aurobindo in the process of making Auroville a reality, a town where flowers are the protagonists, and where Alfassa made flowers a valid tool for self-help and spiritual growth of people. Her work still endures.

I have studied medical anthropology along with American Indians in Texas and Tennessee and the ethnobotanical system in Auroville, India. My personal experience in yoga makes people who attend my classes aware of the innate power of flowers as transmitters of knowledge, and the use of flowers for personal transformation and wellness. I provide the ideal resource for all ages, conditions, levels and limitations.

Bring your yoga mat and water. If you feel like it, bring a notebook if you want to be witness and record active listening with flowers by building an intimate diary with the flower that catches your attention.
